Environmental Education
Throughout the year, Riverside Park Fund offers free environmental education programs to school children, teachers and families. These programs heighten an awareness of the Park’s history, its seasonal changes, and the natural processes that occur among the myriad of flora and fauna that inhabit the Park. Our goal is both to enhance the experience of and to promote a sense of personal stewardship among all Park users for this rich neighborhood resource, right at the end of their block.
Each year over 1,500 New York City public and private school children in kindergarten through fifth grade participate in our School Programs as an integral part of their classroom curriculum.
Teachers attend our semi-annual Professional Development workshops held in Riverside Park, with each session dedicated to a different aspect of the Park’s ecology.
Our Family Programs are offered during the year at sites throughout the Park. Children of all ages participate in these informal park-related activities and programs.
As a result of the generous support of our donors, we are able to offer all of our environmental education programs free of charge to the community.
