This week’s performer: JAZZ at LINCOLN CENTER presents pianist Jonathan Batiste. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1986, Jonathan began his musical education at the age of 8 and quickly flourished as a multi-instrumentalist performing on piano, saxophone and bass guitar. By the age of 16 years old, he was playing with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, Irvin Mayfield and Nicholas Patyon and has performed with Harry Connick Jr., Cassandra Wilson and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and has quickly become a rising star in the jazz world.

Jazzmobile

A young farmer and his wife courageously endure hardships caused by British, Tories, and Indians.

Gymboree Classes

Back by popular demand, Riverside Park Fund and Gymboree Play & Music offer free summer classes at the 73rd Street Track lawn, overlooking the scenic Hudson River. Classes are designed for children under age five, and each week’s activities will rotate to include songs, games, imaginative play and preschool fitness.
Activities are developmentally appropriate for three age groups: 6-16 months, 16-28 months and 28-months to four years. Parents and/or caregivers must accompany each child during the class. Class times are arranged as follows: 9:30 a.m. – 28-months to four years; 10:15 a.m. – 16-28 months; 11:00 a.m. – 6-16 months.

This week’s performer: The Family Jam with Tony Corsano – rock-n-roll sing-along. What goes into the Family Jam? The recipe is simple. Take three parts rock and roll show, two parts classroom and one part comedy club. Chop ingredients into kid-sized bites. Then shake it up! Tony Corsano serves as host and master of ceremonies for Family Jam concerts and he regularly presents music programs for children at the many branches of the Brooklyn and New York Public Libraries, The 14th St. Y, many preschools and community based organizations. He also offers Family Jam live music classes for toddlers in New York City.

Swing-a-Ring Nights!

Come down to the traveling rings on seven Saturdays this summer. There will be free demonstrations and individual instruction in ring swinging, unicycling, juggling, hula-hooping, slacklining, acroyoga, and sand sculpting by accomplished artists and performers. This week: Juggler, Sean Blue (featured on the Today Show) will be demonstrating.
Traveling rings have been a popular attraction in Santa Monica, CA since the 1930’s, and Riverside Park has the only set of rings outside of California.

The Columbia Summer Winds, a group of about 70 of the finest wind, brass and percussion amateur musicians will perform a free program of Broadway hits, marches, American Patriotic songs and music from a wide range of composers, including: Bach, Gershwin, Grainger, Anderson and Balmages.

This week’s performer: Los Soneros de Oriente/Cuban Son. Taking their name from the region of Cuba that is most famous for Son Montuno, Los Soneros de Oriente represent a huge history and lifelong commitment to traditional Cuban music. Composed primarily of former members of the great band, Son del la Loma, Los Soneros pay a tribute to that group and its founder, the late Armando Sanchez, who dedicated his life to the maintenance of Son. This is the music of the countryside and the mountains, based on the Clave and Tres, with the trumpets toasting the top. The overall feel is one of comfort and dignity; it is easy to dance to and is guaranteed to leave you with a warmth of feeling that is Cuban to the core.

Jazzmobile

As the pioneer mobile music organization, Jazzmobile has brought the great Jazz Artists of our time directly to the public throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Gymboree Classes

Back by popular demand, Riverside Park Fund and Gymboree Play & Music offer free summer classes at the 73rd Street Track lawn, overlooking the scenic Hudson River. Classes are designed for children under age five, and each week’s activities will rotate to include songs, games, imaginative play and preschool fitness.
Activities are developmentally appropriate for three age groups: 6-16 months, 16-28 months and 28-months to four years. Parents and/or caregivers must accompany each child during the class. Class times are arranged as follows: 9:30 a.m. – 28-months to four years; 10:15 a.m. – 16-28 months; 11:00 a.m. – 6-16 months.

Swing-a-Ring Nights!

Come down to the traveling rings on seven Saturdays this summer. There will be free demonstrations and individual instruction in ring swinging, unicycling, juggling, hula-hooping, slacklining, acroyoga, and sand sculpting by accomplished artists and performers. This week: Kyle Petersen will be demonstrating and teaching unicycling and juggling.
Traveling rings have been a popular attraction in Santa Monica, CA since the 1930’s, and Riverside Park has the only set of rings outside of California.

Child Rights Walk

Join CRY America (Child Rights and You) and be a part of this unique opportunity to create a lasting change in the lives of millions of marginalized children in India, living thousands of miles away from you. We need your support – register for the event, donate, become a fundraiser, help with event sponsorships or become a team captain!
A variety of skill levels are invited to participate in this year’s New York City Walk event, including a 5k competitive Run for sports enthusiasts starting at 9:00 am and a non competitive 5k Walk for families starting at 9:30 am. Top finishers will receive special recognition and all participants will receive an attractive CRY T-shirt and CRY memorabilia.
