The Science Barge tours New York City’s public waterfront parks, offering sustainability education programs to wide audiences. Shakespeare in the Park: Pericles, Prince of Tyre

North Patio of Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument

The story follows prince Pericles as he discovers King Antiochus’s incestuous relationship with his daughter. Fearing for his life, he flees, only to become the only survivor on the ship to Tarsus. He marries princess Thaisa who later gives birth to a daughter, Marina, at sea and then dies only to be brought back to life. Marina is sent to a brothel where she wins favour for her goodness of spirit and her pure nature. Pericles, guided by a dream, sets sail again and is reunited with both his lost wife and child. Join Hudson Warehouse in Riverside Park for their production of this Shakespeare romance.

From 1 -3 pm we will be planting, weeding, watering, and mulching the slope North of the playground. From 3 – 4 pm, we will have a free picnic lunch for all volunteers and live music. This week’s performer: Los Soneros de Oriente. Taking their name from the region of Cuba that is most famous for Son Montuno, Los Soneros de Oriente represent a huge history and lifelong commitment to traditional Cuban music. This is the music of the countryside and the mountains, based on the Clave and Tres, with the trumpets toasting the top. The overall feel is one of comfort and dignity; it is easy to dance to and is guaranteed to leave you with a warmth of feeling that is Cuban to the core.

The Science Barge is a sustainable urban farm designed by New York Sun Works, an environmental nonprofit organization. The Science Barge tours New York City’s public waterfront parks, offering sustainability education programs to wide audiences. The Science Barge plays host to school groups from all 5 boroughs of New York City during the week, and is open to the general public weekday afternoons and on weekends. Saturday & Sunday tours are scheduled at: 12:00 pm; 1:00 pm; 3:00 pm & 4:00 pm. Tours are first-come, first-served.
